Zombies from Zimbio

0 Comments »

Zimbio is a great place to promote your articles.It gives your some backlinks, engages into a community and allows to create some pages called wikizines aggregating the posts of the same or similar subjects. As it is free it sounds great, but I haven't checked one important thing.
The page of my profile has been indexed rather quick, but now it seems to be crawled very seldom, thus gives no links to some posts, which will go in and out the profile page, before Google visit the page again.
The zines created I guess two months ago don't show in the SERPs, so the time is wasted, and they are as dead as Zombies.
In an effort to put the spirit back to them I enclose some VooDoo links, that are going to work soon.

problems with squidoo URL

After analysis of strange behaviour of one of the squidoo lenses I've jumped into the conclusion that for everything bad is responsible
multiple way of addressing the lens URL.
The lens used capital letters in name Krakow-Travel and that was accessed and linked by squidoo pages, but squidoo server does NOT recognize capitalization of the letter.
When you want to access the lens by putting krakow-travel the server does not return 301 or 404 code but 200.
The result: in Google there are two pages with duplicated content.
Punishment.
I have not observed it for a long time, it appeared that G has chosen the small letters version, but with some filter, that may or may not be taken off in the future.
So far the whole lens has been corrected to:
http://www.squidoo.com/krakow-travel
and we will see if the filter will be released soon.

The photo is less about my thoughts of squidoo, more is about the way of hitting competitors, who happen to have capital letters in squidoo url.

PR table

Recently I have found the interesting table, that shows how many of different links you need to obtain given PR.
The exact number is unknown, but interesting is to see the relations between strength of Page Ranks.
So
PR2 = 5 x PR1
PR3 = 25 x PR1
PR4 = 125 x PR1
PR5 = 625 x PR1
and so on.

The value of the outbound link depends heavily on the number of outgoing links from a given page ( no matter if there are the links to the same site or outside).
The page's Page Rank in this case will be divided by the number of outlinks to give the PR value passed by the one link.
That value is multiplied by factor, say 0.7 to obtain the final amount of the juice passed by.
